Stan Getz
Saxophonist
One of the greatest jazz saxophonists of all time who became forever known with his hit, "The Girl from Ipanema."
He grew up wanting to play every instrument he could get his hands on, but at age thirteen he focused exclusively to the saxophone.
He played with jazz greats Oscar Peterson, Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, and others.
His parents, Ukranian Jews, emigrated from Kiev to New York in the early 1900s.
Antonio Carlos Jobim worked with Stan Getz to write most of his most their jazz standards, but Getz's unique sound brought the notes to life.
