Antônio Carlos Jobim
Pianist
Bossa nova jazz pianist who developed and popularized the new style with his song The Girl from Ipanema from 1964.
He intended to become an architect, but was pulled into jazz instead.
His written songs became jazz standards, performed and re-interpreted by great artists of successive generations.
He grew up in the Tijuca neighborhood of Rio, then moved to Ipanema after his parents separated.
He was not influenced by fellow musicians as much as he was by the paintings of Claude Debussy.
