Guido Calabresi

Italian American legal scholar who served as Dean of Yale Law School. He was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 1994.
His family emigrated from Milan, Italy to New Haven, Connecticut to escape the fascist regime in Italy. He went on to graduate summa cum laude from Yale College.
He was the youngest full-time professor ever hired at Yale Law School and during his tenure he taught the noted justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Sonia Sotomayor.
He married the anthropologist Anne Gordon Audubon Tyler.
He was appointed to the Court of Appeals by U.S. President Bill Clinton, also a graduate of Yale Law School.
