He rose to prominence after the release of his debut full-length album, Feeler, with the title track picked up by Triple J radio station.
He received an APRA Award for "So Beautiful," the Most Performed Australian Work, in 2005. He was nominated again for the next two years.
He was born in Brisbane, Australia. He married Amanda Coutts in 2006 and the couple had two sons before divorcing in 2009.
He has cited Bob Dylan as one of his biggest musical influences.
