William Gibson
Novelist
A leading figure of the cyberpunk literary movement, he is best known for his 1984 novel, Neuromancer. He is a recipient of both the Nebula Award and the Hugo Award.
He grew up in South Carolina and Virginia and moved to Canada in 1968 to avoid being drafted into the Vietnam War. He studied English literature at the University of British Columbia during the 1970s.
He is credited with coining the term, "cyberspace," which first appeared in his short story, Burning Chrome.
Gibson's father died from choking on food when Gibson was a young child. His mother passed away when he was in his late teens. He later had two children with his wife,
He and Andy Duncan both won Hugo Awards.
