Famed engineer from India their for design innovations like the flood protection system in Hyderabad. He is a revered figure in the Indian community, receiving the Bharat Ratna, the highest honor granted to an Indian civilian.
He began working for Mumbai's Public Works Department shortly after graduating from the College of Engineering, Pune.
In his native India, September 15th has been dubbed "Engineer's Day" in his honor.
His full name is Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. His father passed away when he was fifteen years old.
He and physicist C.V. Raman are both recipients of the prestigious Bharat Ratna.
