He worked at Bell Labs perfecting vacuum tubes, which led him to the work of Rudolf Kompfner.
He taught electrical engineering at Cal Tech in 1970.
He had two children with his wife. His son John became a science fiction editor.
He was influenced by the work of Rudolf Kompfner.
