Otto Blathy
Engineer
Hungarian-born electrical engineer who helped create an electric transformer and engines that run on AC electricity. He also specialized in the field of very long moremovers.
He graduated from the mechanical engineering program at the Technical University of Vienna, writing a dissertation on belt engines.
In addition to electrical engineering, his other hobby was creating and solving chess problems.
Born into a wealthy merchant family, he had the resources to pursue his interests in science.
In 1886, he traveled to America to see Thomas Edison's laboratories.
