Latvian Colonel who was the commander of the 1st Latvian Independent Battalion, called the "Kalpaks Battalion".
He decided to become a soldier and completed Irkutsk military school.
He was awarded the most significant Russian military decorations for his heroism in the First World War.
His parents raised him in the Lubāna municipality of Latvia.
He and Lou Diamond both served in World War I.
