Winnie Byanyima
Politician
Ugandan politician and aeronautical engineer who is best recognized for being the director of Oxfam International. She is also known for having served as executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV.
She earned her bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Manchester. She then worked for Uganda Airlines and gained further attention when in 1989 she began serving as Uganda's ambassador to France.
She is also known for having co-chaired the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2015.
She married Kizza Besigye in July of 1999 and has five siblings.
She is known for having joined the armed rebellion after Yoweri Museveni started the 1981 Ugandan Bush War.
