A respected author of fiction and nonfiction, he was also an executive at CBS and NBC. He was both a Shakespearean scholar and a producer of such popular television series as Cheers, Family Ties, The A-Team, and Remington Steele.
Before breaking into television, he published his critically acclaimed novel, The Way It Was.
He received his Ph.D. in Shakespearean studies from Oxford University.
He was married to soap opera actress
He launched the hit NBC series, Cheers, which starred Rhea Perlman.
