Director of the critically acclaimed films Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Her. His script for Her earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He also wrote and directed the 2009 film Where the Wild Things Are.
He was a member of Club Homeboy, an international BMX club, during his teen years.
He initially gained recognition for directing music videos for such artists as Weezer, Beastie Boys, R.E.M. and Daft Punk.
He was married to Sofia Coppola from 1999 to 2003.
