Best known for her acting roles in such western-themed films as Silent Tongue, Ravenous, Coyote Waits, and Into the West, she also had a career as a dancer.
While studying at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, she discovered her love of acting. After her graduation, she attended New York University's renowned Tisch School of the Arts.
She made her film debut alongside Graham Greene and Sam Shepard in the 1992 movie Thunderheart.
A native of Wisconsin, she was born a member of both the Stockbridge-Munsee and the Menominee Native American tribal groups.
She appeared in several film adaptations of author Tony Hillerman's southwestern detective novels.
