He began playing chess at an early age.
He won the prestigious Aeroflot Open in 2004 and finished in the top 10 in the 2005 FIDE World Cup.
He was raised in Russia in what was then the Soviet Union.
Chess master Alexander Morozevich is one of his admirers.
