Private Roman Catholic university founded by then-Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley. It became the oldest diocesan university in the United States and was named after Bayley's aunt Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.
Trivia
It is a sea-grant university and was ranked as one of the top five universities for undergraduate internships by International Business Times in 2011.
