Samuel Baldwinmarks Young
War Hero
Military hero who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. In the early 1900s, he also served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Department of War.
In 1864, he was promoted to the rank of Colonel in the Army of the Potomac. He went on to serve in the Appomattox Campaign.
He attended Washington & Jefferson College in Pennsylvania.
He wed Margaret McFadden in the early 1860s. The couple had a daughter named Marjorie.
In 1866, President Andrew Johnson named Young to the post of Brigadier General of Volunteers.
