Andrew Johnson
US President
Became the 17th President of the United States; he ascended to office following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.
He briefly worked as an apprentice tailor before running away from home at the age of 16.
His Reconstruction policies placed him directly in the crosshairs of Congress, and he became the first president to be impeached by the House of Representatives. He was acquitted by the Senate by just one vote.
He was married to Eliza McCardle for nearly 50 years, and together they had six children.
He was succeeded by former Union Army general and Civil War hero Ulysses S. Grant.
