US Navy admiral who was the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2007 to 2011.
He attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis and played basketball on the team there.
He supported the repeal of "Don't ask, don't tell" and believes that gay soldiers should be able to serve openly.
His father Jack Mullen was a Hollywood press agent and he had four younger siblings.
He was nominated as the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff by President George W. Bush.
