Rihard Jakopic
Painter
Influential Slovene Impressionist painter, patron of arts, and theoretician. He joined the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts from its founding in 1938.
He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, among other art institutions.
He was a prolific artist: 1,200 of his paintings and 650 of his drawings were preserved.
He was born in Krakovo, a suburb of Ljubljana, Slovenia, to a successful tradesman of agricultural goods. He was the youngest of eight.
He, Matej Sternen, Matija Jama, and Ivan Grohar were heralded as pioneers of Slovene Impressionism.
