Remembered as a diplomat under the dictatorial regime of Dominican leader Rafael Trujillo, Rubirosa also attained notoriety through his extravagant lifestyle as a womanizer, race car driver, and polo player.
After briefly studying law, he decided to pursue a career in the military.
He passed away in his mid fifties after crashing his Ferrari following a night of celebration.
His five marriages (listed in order of wedding date and subsequent divorce) were to: Flor de Oro Trujillo (the daughter of Rafael Trujillo); actress Danielle Darrieux; socialite Doris Duke; heiress Barbara Hutton; and model Odile Rodin.
His numerous mistresses included Zsa Zsa Gabor, Ava Gardner, Eva Peron, and Marilyn Monroe.
