First gained fame as a beauty pageant winner, earning the titles of Miss Texas 1970 and Miss America 1971. She later became a sportscaster for CBS and served as a co-host on The NFL Today.
She attended the University of North Texas and Texas Christian University.
She interviewed First Lady Nancy Reagan while anchoring for CBS Morning News.
She married Robert Evans on December 12, 1977, and after their divorce on July 22, 1978, she remarried John Brown in 1979.
She once interviewed former US President Bill Clinton.
