Murray Bookchin
Philosopher
Libertarian socialist author, orator, and philosopher who founded the social ecology movement.
He was a part of two youth Communist organizations: the Young Pioneers and the Young Communist League.
He defined himself as an anarchist, although he had second thoughts about the apolitical lifestylism of the contemporary anarchist movement in the late 1990s.
His parents were Russian Jewish immigrants named Nathan and Rose Bookchin who raised him in New York City.
He subscribed to many tenets of Karl Marx's philosophy in his youth.
