Initially their for portraying Peter Calamy in the 2003, Peter Weir-directed movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, he later pursued a career as a journalist, publishing a 2011 work titled Six Months Without Sundays: The Scots Guards in Afghanistan.
He pursued an acting career while attending London's Harrow School and went on to earn a history degree from the University of Edinburgh and to pursue additional coursework at the University of Calcutta.
In his early twenties, he appeared in two episodes of the television series Trial & Retribution.
He was born and raised in London, England.
He and Stephen Fry were both in the cast of a made-for-TV movie adaptation of the novel Tom Brown's Schooldays.
