Bangladeshi journalist known for editing the largest Bengali paper, the Daily Prothom Alo.
He started editing his first newspaper in 1970 after graduating from the University of Dhaka in 1967.
He was a winner of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for journalism in 2005.
He had a son and a daughter with his wife Maleka Begum.
He started following the works of communist thinker Karl Marx while studying at the University of Dhaka.
