Football Coach
Hall of Fame football coach in both the American and the Canadian leagues. He won four consecutive AFC Championships with the Buffalo Bills from 1990 to 1993.
After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines Air Force to fight against Nazi Germany.
After serving in WWII, he did not like people using war metaphors for sports.
His father was a decorated World War I veteran.
He selected the young and unknown Bill Walsh as his coaching assistant for the Cal Bears in 1960.
