Russian speed skater who won six Olympic gold medals, including four in 1964 at the Innsbruck Olympics.
She qualified for the Soviet World Championships team at the age of 19 and placed third in the National Championships.
She won 4 gold medals at the 1964 Olympics in the 500 meter, 1,000 meter, 1,500 meter, and 3,000 meter.
She is the mother-in-law of speed skater Nataliya Polozkova.
She was the first Olympian to win 4 speed skating events in one year and Eric Heiden was the first to win 5.
