He won his first gold medal at the 1966 European Championships in Deventer.
He won 3 Olympic gold medals and 1 silver.
He is the son of Anjali and Artur Schenk.
He is one of the few Olympians to win 2 gold medals in a single Olympics, along with swimmer Michael Phelps.
