Playwright who has gained acclaim for writing the jukebox musical Tina and the 2009 play The Mountaintop. She serves as the creator, showrunner, and executive producer for the Starz TV series P-Valley, which was adapted for television from her play Pussy Valley.
She earned her bachelor's degree from Columbia University. She also earned her MFA in acting from American Repertory Theater's Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University.
She won a playwriting fellowship at the Kennedy Center. She won an Olivier Award for her 2009 play The Mountaintop.
Her husband's name is Alan.
Her play The Mountaintop opened on Broadway in 2011, with Samuel L. Jackson playing the lead role of Martin Luther King Jr.
