Frederic Auguste Bartholdi
Sculptor
French sculptor known for designing the Statue of Liberty. He also created the statue of Marquis de Lafayette in Union Square in New York City.
He attended the Lycee Louis-le-Grand in Paris and then went on to study architecture at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts.
The Statue of Liberty was the highest structure in New York at the time it was erected.
He married Jeanne-Emilie Baheux Puysieux in 1875.
He and Gustave Eiffel both worked on the Statue of Liberty.
