Florence Kelley
Civil Rights Leader
Suffragist and civil rights activist who helped establish the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP ) in 1909. She was also known for her advocacy for a minimum wage and eight-hour workdays.
She attended Cornell University, where she was a follower of Karl Marx.
She was a friend of author W.E.B Dubois, who she founded the NAACP with.
She had three children with Lazare Wischnewetzky, whom she married in 1884.
She helped translate Die Lage der arbeitenden Klasse in England, which was written by Friedrich Engels.
