Emma P. Carr
Biologist
American scientist who worked as a spectroscopist and was a worldwide leader in the use of ultraviolet spectra of hydrocarbons. She established a link between the frequencies of absorptions and the enthalpy change of combustion of a given compound.
She started working at Mount Holyoke College as an assistant in their chemistry department.
She was the inaugural recipient of the Francis P. Garvan Gold Medal of the American Chemical Society in 1937.
She was the third child of Edmund and Anna Carr.
Like her, politician Nita Lowey also attended Mount Holyoke College.
