Vincent Du Vigneaud
Biologist
American biochemist who won the 1955 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for isolating, identifying, and synthesizing oxytocin. He spent his career researching sulfur, proteins, and peptides.
He studied chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He was a member of the Alpha Chi Sigma fraternity while at the University of Illinois in 1930.
He married Zella Zon Ford in 1924, and stayed married to her until her death over fifty years later.
He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry four years after fellow American chemist Glenn Seaborg did.
