Lee Morgan
Trumpet Player
Trumpet player who was known for his 1963 album The Sidewinder, as well as for his presence in the hard bop musical community.
He was given a trumpet at the age of thirteen and went on to play with Dizzy Gillespie's Big Band five years later.
He helped lead the Jazz and People's Movement, a group which tried to further the showcasing of jazz musicians in the early 1970s.
His common-law wife Helen More shot him at a saloon where his band was playing in the East Village and he died from his wounds; she was committed.
Both Morgan and Amos Lee have released recordings with Blue Note.
