Edgard Colle

A champion who introduced the revolutionary chess opening, the Colle System. He unfortunately struggled with major health issues that hindered his career.
The Colle System was made popular in the United States by International Master George Koltanowski.
The Colle System eventually fell from popularity in professional circles, but is often used in amateur and scholastic groups as an introductory method.
He had four operations for a gastric ulcer and succumbed to death when he was 34 following the fourth.
He defeated Max Euwe at Amsterdam in 1926, who would go on to become the World Chess Champion in 1935.
