Draga Matkovic
Pianist
Classical pianist who surpassed the 100-year mark. She was still performing at her 102nd birthday party.
She had to obtain permission from the government before she could enter the German Music Academy of Prague at age 15. She was named Professor of Piano when she was 19.
She wasn't allowed to play in public during World War II since one of her pieces would be Tchaikovsky's B flat minor piano concerto, a decidedly non-Aryan composition.
She was married to violinist Arthur Arnold from 1937 until 1942.
She performed many pieces at her 100th birthday party, including works by Chopin, Mendelssohn, and Franz Liszt.
