Dorothy Coade Hewett
Poet
Poet, librettist, playwright, and novelist known for works such as The Toucher, Wild Card, and Hidden Journey. Her over a dozen stage plays include The Chapel Perilous and The Old Man Comes Rolling Home.
She grew up on an Australian wheat and sheep farm and later attended Perth College and the University of Western Australia.
She became a member of the Communist Party in 1946 but rescinded her membership in 1968.
She married Lloyd Davies in 1944 and divorced him soon after the death of their young son. Later, she had three more sons with Les Flood before marrying Merv Lilley and giving birth to two daughters.
She and Lola Ridge were fellow Australian poets and feminists.
