Samad Vurgun
Poet
Poet and playwright who was honored as the 1943 People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR. His published works include The Lamp and The Poet's Oath.
He published his first poetry collection, The Poet's Oath, in 1930 and joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union ten years later.
He was featured on an Azerbaijani postage stamp in 2006.
He and his wife, Khaver Khanim Mirzabeyova, had three children: Yusif, Samadoglu and Aybeniz.
He, like Anar Rzayev, was one of the leading figures in twentieth-century Azerbaijani poetry.
