Denis Matsuev
Pianist
Internationally known after winning several competitions and touring with acclaimed symphony orchestras.
He won first prize at his first international piano competition in 1993 in South Africa.
He partnered with the Sergei Rachmaninoff Foundation. He began performing for the public obscure Rachmaninoff pieces on Rachmaninoff's own piano to benefit the Foundation.
His parents were both musicians: his father was a pianist and composer, while his mother was a piano teacher.
He gave a jazz concert at the Moscow Conservatory's Great Hall, becoming the first classical pianist to have done this. His approach to jazz was influenced by Oscar Peterson.
