Known for her work with such groups as Anthony Braxton's Quartet, the Reggie Workman Ensemble, and the Henry Grimes Trio.
She received classical training while a student at the New England Conservatory of Music.
She was a performer at the 1981 Woodstock Jazz Festival honoring the Creative Music Studio's 10th anniversary, which was founded by jazz expert Karl Berger.
She briefly left music in 1969 to get married and go into the medical field, but the marriage ended in divorce and she returned to music six years later.
She embraced jazz after hearing the music of such genre greats as John Coltrane and Cecil Taylor.
