Singer and guitarist best known as the frontman for the band Soul Asylum, who released 90's hits like "Runaway Train."
He was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin and got his start as a drummer in the punk band Loud Fast Rules.
He contributed music to the soundtracks for the Kevin Smith-directed films Chasing Amy, Clerks and Clerks II.
He briefly dated actress Winona Ryder.
He played with bassist Karl Mueller in Soul Asylum until his death in 2005.
