Daniel Buren
Sculptor
French abstract minimalist sculptor and installation artist who specialized in works featuring vertical stripes. Employed site-specific installation throughout his oeuvre. "The Stripe Guy" was one of his nicknames.
He graduated from Paris' Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Métiers d'Art and began his career by painting frescoes.
He created public art works that he mounted as posters in over 100 Parisian metro stations.
He was born in the suburbs of Paris.
He and fellow conceptual artist Ray Johnson both experimented with form and shape.
