Polish-born chess master who became Canada's first Grandmaster in 1964,
He moved from Poland to Canada when he was only eight moths old and he played in his first Canadian Chess Championship when he was 12 years old.
He was an eight-time Canadian Chess Champion, winning his first one in 1941 at the age of 16. He also won the British Championship in 1953.
His family immigrated to Canada when he was an infant.
He has competed against American chess master Arnold Denker.
