Known for such books as Raising Ourselves to the Bar and The Continuous Atonement, Growing Up, this author and Brigham Young University education professor also had a career as a public speaker for Mormon (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) events.
After graduating from Brigham Young University in the mid 1980s, he earned a PhD from the University of Wyoming.
He spent part of his childhood in Ethiopia and later participated in an LDS mission in Chile.
His marriage to medical professional Debi Wilcox resulted in four children.
He and Mormon self-help author Stephen Covey both received degrees from Brigham Young University.
