Portuguese painter who became their for her "Self-Portrait" from 1900. She painted landscapes, portraits, and everyday scenes.
She studied at the Fine Arts Academy of Porto, Portugal, with the famed João Marques de Oliveira.
She was influenced by realism, naturalism, impressionism, and post-impressionism.
She was born in Chile to Portuguese parents, and she moved back to Portugal with her family when she was only two years old.
She and Vincent van Gogh were contemporaries.
