Antanas Vienuolis
Playwright
Lithuanian writer and dramatist known for his work in the realism genre. His numerous literary works include Uzkeiktieji vienuoliai (Cursed Monks), Paskenduole (The Drowned), and Sventavarte (Holygate).
He excelled as a student at the Anyksciai school in his native Azuozeriai, Lithuania (then part of the Russian Empire).
He wrote novels, novellas, and dramas.
He was raised with five older sisters. He was the son of peasants Julijonas Zukauskas and Rozalija Baranauskaite.
He and Czeslaw Milosz were fellow Lithuanian writers.
