French author and playwright who is best known for his novel-turned-melodrama, Camille. Known as Alexandre Dumas, fils, he was the son of the renowned novelist, Alexandre Dumas.

Before Fame

He was born in Paris as the illegitimate son of Marie-Laure-Catherine Labay and Alexandre Dumas. His father seized custody of him and sent him to the prestigious Collège Bourbon.

He married Nadezhda von Knorring in 1864; together, the couple had two daughters. Following his first wife's death, he wed Henriette Régnier de La Brière.
