Before beginning her political career, she chaired the Northern Ireland Chinese Welfare Association and held other social work positions.
She stirred controversy by advocating Irish unification.
Born in what was then British Hong Kong, Lo later relocated to Northern Ireland and raised two children.
She and Northern Irish House of Commons member Naomi Long are both members of the Alliance Party.
