Albert Toft
Sculptor
English sculptor who created many portraits, such as the Leamington Spa War Memorial and the Chadderton War Memorial.
He trained in Wedgwood's pottery and won a scholarship to study sculpture at the South Kensington Schools.
He called his work idealist, but also said of himself that "to become an idealist you must necessarily first be a realist."
His brother was the landscape artist Joseph Alfonso Toft.
He and Rachel Whiteread are both English sculptors.
