Abraham Joshua Heschel
Philosopher
Rabbi and thinker who was remembered as one of the most influential Jewish philosophers of the 20th century.
He studied at the University of Berlin where he obtained his doctorate. He received his liberal rabbinic ordination at the Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums.
His name was given to four different schools across the world from places including California to Canada. His first book was The Sabbath, which was published in 1951.
He had one daughter with his wife Sylvia Straus.
He and philosopher Yeshayahu Leibowitz both studied at the University of Berlin.
