He grew up in the small town of Hot Springs, South Dakota, passing the time by hanging out on the nearby lake with his friends. In his first ever Tweet in 2015, he announced that he was from Brett and Max, referring to his friend Max whom he used to post with across social media.

He is an only child and is extremely close with his parents.
